About Isabella - A Creative Artist

I like to call myself a creative artist because I have had the opportunity to be trained in so many different areas of the arts.

I see myself as both a visual artist and a performing artist and I think it is important to develop myself as much as possible in different areas of the arts so that I can express myself effectively as an artist.

If you are interested in performing arts you can visit www.isabellawong.net to learn more about what I do as a performer.

My creative journey

I was always a very messy child but that is because I was always CREATING. After reading my mother’s fashion magazines, I was inpired to become a fashion designer! I learned to sew when I was 4 years old and made my first dress when I was 5. I didn’t have any material so I made my “couture collection” out of supermarket shopping bags!

Apart from music, I also enjoyed art at school. I excelled in life drawing and portraiture. I sold my first artwork when I was 14. I was very proud of that drawing even though it was of some big lady that I didn’t know.

After finishing my music theatre course in 2004, I strived to build my own website for self promotion as I didn’t want to pay anyone to do the job. I bought a lot of books and went to several short courses to equip myself in Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver.

Then in the same year, I discovered my other passion in life: CATS! Because of these beautiful furry animals I wanted to capture their every move. My cousin gave me one of his old SLRs and things just snowballed from there.

Since my cat photos were posted all over the internet, people just contacted me out of the blue asking me to take photos of their animals. This is when I started my animal photography business “Isabella Catography” then my freelance graphic design business.

Although I am known for my “animal work”, I am a competent and versatile designer outside of the animal realm. Many of my “non animal” clients include restaurants, florists, actors/performers, photographers and non profit associations.

I am currently completing my Master of Design at the University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts. I also attend Master Classes at the Australian Centre for Photography when I can.
